The green chromis (Chromis Viridis – sometimes called the bule green chromis) is a low cost salt water fish suited for beginning and small aquariums. It may get up to 4’ long. While it belongs in the damsel family, a family known for aggressive behavior in aquariums, the chromis is a peaceful fish. Peaceful fish for my aquarium was a requirement. The fish had to be fairly peaceful for their species or could be kept with compatible fish. This is important in a small aquarium where conditions may be crowded. Chromis live in the Pacific Ocean and can be seen in large shoals in shallow lagoons (found behind fringing reefs) and around the reef. Live aquaria mentions that they prefer acropora corals. Like many reef shoaling fish, they do better with a constant source of food. The fish are usually more blue above, and more green below and iridescent. If you are looking for fish that will swim in the upper portion of your tank, this is one possibility. Males are known to guard eggs in sand.
You can see a shoal of chromis in this video.
