36" light fixture over 48" tank

Wanted some opinions...

For my 72g BOWFRONT I am contemplating a 36" light fixture.

Few reasons:

1. Because of my skimmer and filter setup (on either side of the tank) I cant use a 48" setup that sits ON the tank
2. I am not too crazy about hanging anything from the ceiling
3. Because the tank is a bowfront the sides of the tank are bare anyway..liverock is about 4" from either side SO the live rock only runs about 38" long across the tank

Any thoughts on this?

A 36" fixture would work in that I could rest it on the tank...using supports from front to back to act as the "legs" that would normally sit on the sides of the tank.

Thoughts?

That old saying of "many roads lead to rome" seems to be applicable here...

I'd try it and post later your results/thoughts. Seems like a logical solution you are presenting - assuming the legs are sturdy and can hold up the fixture from the front and back.

The last thing you want is that light falling in the tank.

Btw - since the tank "bows" out - wouldn't that prevent the legs from reaching? I dunno - just thinking / writing out loud here...

Ive been thinking about doing the same thing...I have a standard 55 and my t5 setup from my 38gallon....I was curious if I could just use it on the 55 and keep any coral I want away from the edges...In theory it seems that it would work quite well?
