Aptasia Experiment

I was looking in my sump tonight and found two large Aptasias. I looked around for some Joe's Juice or Kalk powder. Didn't have any. Oh Ohh. What can I do?
I found a bottle of Seachem Reef Dip, filled a syringe from a test kit and started my experiment. I tried 1 drop and nothing. Two drops in the mouth and slime all over my glass. Instant kill for that little bugger. Tried it on the second one, same results with 2 drops.
Did anyone ever try this and not let us in on the seceret?

I might need to give this i try I have got about 50+... I've been fighting them since Jan... I was about to try the peppermint shrimp but i might thy this.

Thanks for the secret! oops

Necessity The Mother of Invention! So far this one peppermint shrimp appears obsessed with aiptasia, but it's great knowing there's more than one way to rid a tank of these eyesores.

It's always neat to hear of different techniques to solving aquarium problems (especially since there just never seems to be any one perfect solution to ANY problem!). I'd be very curious if you could keep us posted on your success/failure rates with this!

It's been 3 hours and their still dead. Hope they stay that way.

Lol. Not that way, silly. Success/failure rates as in times it doesn't kill the aiptasia, as versus insta-death!

Hello there,

I know you are not using much of it. However, the directions on the bottle do say

DIRECTIONS: Use only in a dip container and not in the aquarium. "Observe animals during treatment for evidence of adverse reactions such as excessive sliming". However, it also says "It is safe to use with both stony and soft corals. It is also safe for anemones and polyps".

But I don't think they want it in the main tank or cannot be held liable for anything if you do. Just an FYI. This may never happen. Keep us updated.

Smaller one died completly. Larger one is deformed but still hanging on. Gave him 2 more drops.

I had tried Joes Juice and everything. I decided to drop 5 pep shrimp in, and they are almost all gone at this point and its only been a few days. :)

Usually anything highly alkaline will do the trick.
