Aqua C Remora question

I got the up to 75g Aqua C remora used off of RC.com. Its only been running a day and on the directions it says to let the thing go for a week or 2 before it really starts working well. Is that due to it being run in a brand new tank or do they mean for a new unit that has never been run before?

It is spitting up bubbles and there is a quarter inch of tea colored water in the receptacle so far. Also my tank is only a few weeks old so I was also told that with more established tanks, skimmers do more work.

For those of you who have gotten one used, how did it work out for you when you first set it up to a few weeks/months down the line?

It takes a week or two for the skimmer to break in. Even when it's used, if it was cleaned out well it will take two weeks. If you are getting microbubbles those should go away in that time as well.

Also, you might want to raise the collection cup up a little (1/8 or 1/4 inch) if you would like a drier skimmate.

We have two Aqua C Remoras and yes they take time to break in. It takes a good two to three weeks before they are ready to go and setting the height of the collection cup also will make a difference. My advice would be to start it low and work it up until you feel you have a good foam level. Did you get a new pump with the skimmer or did you keep the old one? Pump performance matter a lot on a HOB skimmer and a maxijet 1200 is like 30 bucks brand new. Depending on how old the pump is you might want to clean it out or get a new one if you have the cash.

also check the little plastic screw inside the unit where the pump pumps in. I had mine going for a few months and was a bit disappointed with production, I than cleaned it w/ vinegar and water and played w/ the screw inside, after moving the screw some I got much better skimmate.
