Aqua medic skimmer opinions

I was wondering if anyone has/has an opinion on the aqua medic turboflotor 1000 skimmer. I got a deal for it for 130 dollars with a brand new ocean runner needle wheel recirruculation pump. I would appreciate information on suggested water height inside skimmer and in sump, and anything else you can say about it.

Hi

I've been using a Turboflotor 1000 on my reef tank with good success for several years now. I gravity feed it directly from one of the overflows in my tank using an inexpensive Fluval canister filter valve to regulate the flow. I keep the foaming water level at the top of the skimmer's body and just very slightly below where the tapered cup assembly attaches.

Note that I use a RIO 2500 pump and not an Ocean Runner. At first, that's all I did and it was good.

Now however, I am experimenting with a variable flow Tetra Luft air pump attached to the air intake tube on the skimmer to see if I get a more consistent performance, ie. such that I don't have to keep adjusting it every time I clean it or do a water change and need to shut off the flow to the skimmer temporarily.

Please let me know how big a tank you have and how you plan to set up the skimmer. Mine is located in my sump.

I would also like to know how the OR 2700 Pump works with the skimmer as I have one as a backup.
