Hello there,
I have found that when I talk to new people about setting up a tank that responding with " Go online and read read read " just does not cut it anymore. I find that people go out and search and the first thing they come across and read is like the bible more then just a small bit of information. No matter what you do in this hobby having multiple opinions and discussions to read and follow is very important. Never read just one thing and swear by it.
On that note, here is some information that is basic enough but does have some good information for beginners.

Just a little something I spotted in my research. Figured I would share.
*** I am in no way condoning all the information in those pages. It is up to you to decide what is best for you and your tank. If you are not sure. ASK!
