first camera. circuit city has d40x with one lens for $625. is this a good price?

I saw different people were saying this was a good camera but I would like to spend a bit less mabe $400?
I dont know . how about a cannon rebel xti? $349. at one way video I need some help here.
Check on the retailer ratings before you jump into an off-beat place to buy your camera so you know what you're getting into. There's a lot of scam in that industry.
If you want to get into the Nikon line but need to go cheaper than a D40x, get the D40 and then when you're ready, you can upgrade to a D80 or a D200. You should be able to pick up the body and lens for around 450.

OK I got it down to 2 cameras d40x package at costo w/2 lenses 18-55 and 75-200mm bag 1g card $849. after 100 rebate.

both look like good cameras I was told by photographer Nikon was a little more complicated? If you had your pick which one would you choose and why. based on experience with both cameras?

Love the lenses, love the feel of the camera in my hand- that's what you need to consider. If you feel more comfortable holding one camera over the other, you'll use it more often. The Nikon just fits better in my grasp, check what comfort level is best for you; but both are awesome cameras.
You can always keep the lenses, they are all interchangeable within manufacturers, unless otherwise noted.
