I am contemplating on getting a lifereef HOB overflow, since their street-cred seems to be the best. http://www.lifereef.com/siphon.html . I contacted them and was told to determine how much flow I should need in my setup. The guy himself remained somewhat non-committal on the matter, perhaps because of liability issues.
I have a 40G aquarium with 2 hydor 2 (600 gph each) and an HOB skimmer with a pump @ 250GPH (Total 1450 Gph ). Would soon get a 29G baffled sump (taking Paul's (rf-bf) advice and buying equipment for the next big setup ;D). The height difference between the water level of my DT and sump would be 4 to 4.5 feet. Do I determine the flow rate as 30-40 times turnover/ hour?
If that is so, then I am thinking of getting a koralia out the DT and into the sump and placing a 600GPH overflow in a similar location. Let me know if that would work.
Also, any advice regarding a suitable return pump would be appreciated.
