Dry rock & PO4

I am looking to by about 50-60lbs of dry rock to start my tank. Tank is brand new no water no life nothing. I have read several threads that are at least a year old that talk about dry rock leaching phosphates and not to put uncooked/uncured dry rock into an established tank.

So my tank is new and I am looking at Marco or reef cleaner rock and the web sites state they are phosphate free and/or safe to add directly to a tank. I want to place the rock in the tank and start to cycle. Anyone recently do this and not experience any PO4 issues?

Personally I wouldn't add either of those rocks to the tank without curing first. The only rock I would add, and have added is reef rocks. Pretty much the same stuff but they are completely cleaned. Just need a rinse to get the dust off. Even those I would add in moderation to an existing. You can either get it from reefrocks.com or one of our vendors here sells it. Ultra corals. It well worth the drive to get it there.

I added 50lb of dry rock from reefrocks.net straight into my tank without any detectable phosphates, not even a cyan spike.. I did leave a large piece of rock from my other tank in the center of the tank and did have a light bioload.

Just stay away from the pukani, there have been a lot of reports of that leaching po4.
