fire dept just left - don't buy cheap powerstrips

Not aquarium related - pc related, but since we all use some type of power distribution for our aquariums - just take this as a reminder to not buy cheap powerstrips and that they do go bad so replace semi-frequently.

As I was pulling in at work the wife called and said the basement was filled with smoke. Ran home just beating the fire department - luckily no flames yet, but the one powerstrip was about to cause one. Thankfully everything is ok, but please heed the advice and replace every so often.

WOW glad to hear that it was caught on time wit no loss due to fire. It is definitely something to think about because our tanks are pulling much more current than a computer system!

Good point, and if you don't have a smoke detector in the basement get one. I had a outlet burn. Luckily I heard my tank start making weird noises because of the loss of power to the pump. I went out and got one the next day. Glad everyone is safe
