GFCI WIRING HELP !!!!!

I'm guessing that you mean switched as for a light-switch. I can't give you a definitive answer, but I tried it on my 15gal tank setup in my office and it failed miserably. But, in my case, the switched receptacle was also feeding other receptacles and the overhead light. So, I can't say for sure. I asked a buddy (was an electrician years ago) about it and he said it's not possible.

I've considered protecting the circuit earlier in the circuit, but I haven't given it a chance. Remember, any downstream receptacles are protected by the GFCI protection.

If you had R1 --> R2 --> R3 --> R4 --> R5 :: R(x) = Receptacle Number

If you had a GFCI in R4 than R4 and R5 would be protected. If you had the GFCI in R1 than R2 --> R5 would be protected.

At least that's my understanding of it. I have no idea if this solution works the same when a switched circuit is added to the equation.

im trying to have a plug in my basement for my pump and the switch to turn it on and off near my tank. thanks for any help. Chuck P

Like duijver said if you do a GFI on R1 it protects the rest in the link so put a switch between R4 and R5 to switc R5 on and of but get the rotection when its on. I believe.
