MRC Skimmer issues

I have an MRC MR2 Protien skimmer. I just can't seem to get it to skim properly. The water level inside the column constantly fluctuates and the density of the air bubbles in the column seems extremely week. When the bubble density appears very week, I clean the becketts and expect them to be dirty, but they are not. When I hold my finger next to the air inlet valve, it seems like there is no suction. I had the 18" column extension on the unit but took it off thinking things would improve, but they did not. The pump I'm using is a Reeflo Marlin pump which I think should provide more than enough flow. What could be the problem?

I had a MRC-2 Skimmer and I never liked it :( I Always had to adjust the skimmer to keep it skimming. Otherwise it would not skim.
I know this was no help to you. Just my experience with MRC Skimmer.

Mike is it possible that there is salt creep , something blocking the airflow or is the valve stuck closed? I took mine apart and ran vinegar through them and it helped until I realized one of the needle valves did not work when turned. If not, maybe the pump is week? Is that the pump you have been running all along?

I run the MRC MR4R is a poop sucking beast!

How is the Beckett air intake controlled? Check the needle vale for good operation. I squirt a 10 ML syringe of RO water into each intake every day sometimes twice a day to keep them clear.

How are you feeding the skimmer water? This is absolutely critical to performance. It must be adequate stable flow without too much flow.

How are you controlling effluent from the skimmer? Gate valves are best with absolutely no backpressure on the plumbing.

What is the flowing water level in the body, without the pump on that drives the becketts?

How often do you clean the neck? Mine will clog solid with muck before it stops skimming.

Try cleaning the pump that is feeding it, but in all honesty I hate those skimmers and have never been happier with my system since the day I got rid of my MR2R. LOL.
