My Acclimation Faux Pas

My Acclimation Faux Pas

Whenever I can, I like to use the Blue Life USA "Safety Stop - Rapid Fish Quarantine Bath" product when acclimating a new fish to one of my systems.
(Safety Stop - Rapid Fish Quarantine Bath) There's a picture of a packet below.

One part consists of ingredients for a one gallon 15 minuter Formalin bath. The other part consists of ingredients for a one gallon 15 minuter Methylene Blue bath.

In the past, I've been using cheap Home Depot two gallon paint pails made of cheap white plastic for the baths. Without any thought, I rinse them in tap water when I'm through with the baths in preparation for their next use.

I recently had a large (by aquarist standards) order delivered to my door. Included were two small Orange Skunk Cleaner Shrimp. (The ones shipped to you are always small.) I quickly put both of them into one of the above-mentioned buckets along with the water they came shipped in. Within five minutes, both were dead and beyond resuscitation.

I don't know exactly what the vector was, but I'm putting a Skull & Crossbones on both of my current bath buckets. I'll be getting new HD buckets for use in small acclimation tasks in the future.

Never heard of this stuff before.

Found this on Reef central - Dipping Cleaner Shrimp
This dip product has been around for years. It does seem to have doubled in price over the past year or two. Aquatic Obsessions once kept it on the counter, not sure if Will still does. One on-line vendor I once got fish from (Tank Stop ?) would include a packet with fish that you bought.
