newbie zoa question

last week i purchased a colony of zoa. Most all polyps opened fully under a basic strip light. yesterday i purchased a PC floresant light with over 265 watts on my 72 bowfront.

I have noticed in yesterday several like 6 polyps not opening and today i have as many as 10 not open. this colony is about 50-60 polyps. Is this normail? They look like there alove but not open

Sounds fine but I would move them lower for a few days to adjust to the light and then start to move them back up slowly . Keep an eye on them,if they start to melt and less open You might want to frag off some healthy ones as a backup .

With new lights you only want to have them on for maybe 4 hours a day and ween the corals onto them. Also, depending on the bulbs, turn on the blues first then full color, helps.

Chuck, some zoos/palys can be a bit temperamental when you add them, or change something. I've had a bunch of Armageddons, and decided to move half of them over to the other side of my tank. Sure enough, they initially opened up, but by day #2, most of them stayed closed. I'm now on day #6, and they still haven't recovered from going from pretty shade to pretty light. Hang in there, they "should" open up once they're fully acclimated and used to the brighter lights. :)

Chalky substance could be fungus. There's a dip recipe here somewhere. Hopefully someone who knows zoos better will chime in!
