Nitrates/NO3 at 80ppm

Hey everyone -

I was reading the sur4die's tale of the tank - and I think this got buried among all the recent posts.

Anyways - his nitrates are at 80ppm. He is using the 'Old' Sand that was in the tank (which he purchased complete).

I suggested a 100% water change - but I'm not sure. Any other want to chime in?

Thread is here.

Also if this is not considered an emergency - I apologize and will move it elsewhere.

I think emergency or not depends on whether or not it is stocked with corals. If you have corals at 80ppm nitrate they are not going to be happy for long! On the other hand my FOWLR probably runs that high on an ongoing basis. Many large water changes would definitely help to bring those down.
