October POTM Contest

Who wants $10 club cash to be used on the next group buy? All you have to do is submit a picture and win this contest.... and who knows, you might just be in an NJRC 2008 calendar too.

Not really, Wendy. The same principals apply regardless. That Oly would probably take nearly as good pictures of the things in your tank.

A couple of things you can do to improve your odds:

1) Know the working distance of the lens you're using (don't try to take pictures less than 6" from your cameras lens if the working distance is 6" or greater).

2) Make sure that the lens is FLAT to the glass. This is CRITICAL. I can't stress this enough. If you try to take a picture, even on the slightest angle to the glass you will have ABYSMAL results.

3) Get as close to the glass as possible. The closer you are to the glass the less likely it is to be a factor.

4) Make sure your glass is SPOTLESS inside and OUT! No fingerprints, smudges, yuck inside (Reefgadget before taking pictures).

5) Understand the focus mechanism of your camera. Know what it is focusing on. Play with the various settings to see what improves your photos and what makes them worse.

6) If you don't have a tripod make YOU into one. Sit perfectly still, braced as much as possible, roll your finger through the shutter release and DON'T BREATH. That's right. Don't breath. I bought a 25$ tripod.

Master these and you'll be ready for your next lesson. If we can't get someone in for the November meeting, we'll use "Local Talent". Bring your cameras, it will be hands on. Watching what you do WRONG may well fix it so you do more right.

Just wanted to say get ready for the constest. It will be posted in the Rock the Vote forum tonight at midnight. Good luck and thanks for the submissions.
