Pearling

Hi Reefers

Since I have to work full time to support my new reef habit and my family (is that the right order?), I only really get time to admire my tank in the evening after work. Anyway, I notice towards the end of the night that the rocks are pearling. When the tank was a high tech CO2 planted tank, pearling was what they guys on that forum used to get all excited about, but I wonder if it is supposed to be happening in my reef. I would say that my reef set up is pretty low tech - just an old ehiem canister and a few power heads, so I know it is not the result of adding CO2.

Is this something to worry about? Besides this, tank seems to be running fine and fish and corals are all thriving.

In case it helps you all opine, here are some additional bits on the setup:
20 gallon tank
Set up in July this year
Buildmyled.com light strip (20k) turns on at about 10 am and off at about 9 pm
Bi-weekly water changes, about 4 gallons
One clown fish, one clown goby, and one peppermint shrimp
A variety of starter corals
A bunch of creepy crawlies that I assume came with my live rock and come out when I feed - little wormy things and tiny bugs (usually feed every other day - about a dozen little pellets or an slice of a frozen cube if I am feeling very generous)

If I'm not mistaken, I believe "pearling" was when tiny oxygen bubbles formed at the tips of plants in a freshwater tank....and looked like tiny pearls. Since most of use don't have plants in our reef tanks, I'm going to guess the "pearling" you are seeing are the oxygen bubbles generated for cyano bacteria...but that is just a guess. If not cyano, some other undesirable algae.
