Pet Goods :(

 Very sad and upset with this store, although I somewhat did it to myself. The gf needed to go get cat food, so I figured Id peruse the saltwater selection. I come across 2 target mandarins, which are extremely emaciated, but active. They were desperate to find something on the grapefruit sized peice of LR they were sharing in the tank, but Im sure they cleaned it out. The employee, who I knew from another LFS and trust, said he had them for a few weeks, and they were eating, but not gaining any weight...oookkkkk. Ive got an overwhelming pod population in my refugiums on both my 29 and 24, I know not recommended, but I had to do something. Got a deal on them, 2 for 30, and acclimated. The larger one seemed a little shy, but was grazing soon after. The smaller one looked lethargic but was breathing and picking, although not very actively. Came home from work to find the small guy in the claws of the cleaner shrimp, mustve made it through most of the day, and died right before I got home. He was fully intact when I found him. I expressed my concern to the employee, and he admitted my tank would be better than here. The fact the they bring in such crap livestock bothers him, with most of his experience being at LFS's. He mentioned hes tried to get the company to get better livestock, but it falls upon deaf ears. Unless rescueing a poor soul, do not support these chains!!!!! These poor fish do not deserve the terrible life they get at a large chain!!!!

none of these big chain stores should be allowed to have saltwater livestock (or freshwater for that matter). when the wife and i were in maine visiting family we went to the petco(i think)and they had saltwater fish. tons of fish, none looked good. i know i will get yelled at for saying this, but mandarins are one of those fish that should be left on the reef. they are so hard to keep and often fall into the wrong hands (not yours)... i dont think that im too far off in saying that 8 outta 10 probally dont last 3 months after being netted and shipped around the globe

I know scotty, I kind of feel the same way but I had to do something. I will be stocking up with extra pods in the near future to get this guy fat! Ive been shaking the cheato in the fuge to let some pods out. The larger one is doing well btw. Im hoping hell find some leftover NLS pellets and take a liking.
Switch its the one on Rt 17S, make the u turn at the fireplace and its on the right next to Burlington Coat Factory. Scott is the employee who used to work at The Fish Tank, if anyone is familiar with him. I love the fireplace btw :) Im thinking Fireplace for din and a ride up to tropical fish town in ramsey? Havent been there in a while!

i know what ya mean audio, i would also be the one to take it in as a charity case since you at least know you have SOME pods in your tank as opposed to none in theirs.

I sent a letter to corporate office of Petco about one particular store. The SW fish are always covered in ick, you'd think it snowed in the tank. They gave me some BS that all fish have ich and blah blah. Not **** I knew that aready and replied back stating so. I listed every animal in the house and told them I will no longer shop there if something wasn't done to improve the health of the fish. Never receieved another email. I went back and it was a little better but I still refuse to buy a dog biscuit there.

Yea the best thing we can do is not purchase products from them, hard to do sometimes but we can at least try. Madreefer, you didnt know all fish that get imported get ick>? Ive never seen one without it, haha. What a line of bs that was!

yeah thats a nice line of b.s! granted, some saltwater fish do get it at the slightest bit of stress but EVERY fish? im not thinkin that i do anything or shop differently than anyone else on here, and have never had ich ....in my saltwater that is
