please feel free to throw in any suggestions on a skimmer for my new 300g tank it will have about 300lbs LR no sand and the sump is gonna be a 125g filled 1/3 up im figuring a skimmer that can handle a 500g tank would work g8 thanks

I don't have a tank that big (yet, LOL), but I use an AquaC urchin. It has to be the best skimmer I've used to date (11 years as a reefer), why not ask around for their larger counterparts?

I get about a cup of brown skimmate once a week on my 55.

IMO the best you can get for a 300 gallon is:

Marine Technical Concept (MTC) MTC1000

The best skimmers on the market....... It will run you about $900 with pump........ :(


But worth every penny ;D

They sell a MTC250 for about $300.... but it's only rated for 250 gallons..... If you add a refugium or sump the MTC250 will not be enough.......

I would suggest a Deltec skimmer recently purchased one and its a work horse. I purchased the MC500 ($420 purchased from Deltec.) from Deltec it fits inside the sump comes with a pump, it really rocks. Check it out at

The are very reputable vendors and have some terriffic products.

i use an asm g-3 for 200gallons. champion lighting and supply carries them at the best price. a g-8 would do you fine. g-5 would probally work. have a friend with a g-5 on a 600g. needle wheel pump. anthony calfo likes the asm. it is a euro-reef knock off for a better price. skimming is an interesting science. it is not just plug it in and go.
