Pump Connections

The threaded portion of an adapter that was threaded into the discharge of my skimmer pump has broken and the the threaded portion is still in the pump. Does anyone have any ideas on how I might remove the threaded piece from the pump without messing up the threads on the pump connection? Hate to buy a new pump just for this.

Thanks. I'm gonna stop at Lowes after work to pick up a 1"x3/4" male adapter and a 1" cplg.
