Rotifers and Nannochloropsis

Hello,

Does anyone have Live Rotifers and Nannochloropsis cultures?

I want to try to culture Rotifers and am looking for someone local to discuss the process and purchase some Live rotifers from.

Thanks

You can raise rotifers without having live phyto. They will ingest "dead" phyto all the same. There was a talk at MACNA by Randy Reed of Reed Mariculture who shared all this.

What you mainly need is seed rotifer culture. Unfortunately mine crashed and now that my fish aren't pumping eggs out every month - (go figure).

A refrigerated product like Phyto Feast would be suitable to feed the live rots.

One of the sponsors on the board - DBFrags was maintaining a rots culture but I think he may have sold out as I asked him about it.

RFD4,

You missed out on a free rotifer culture at MACNA!

I once bought a live rotifer culture on eBay from this guy:
http://cgi.cafr.ebay.ca/LIVE-ROTIFERS-coral-copepods-fry-food-w-Phyto-rotifer_W0QQitemZ270470835628QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3ef9516dac
(Don't ask me why this page is in French - it is what I got with a Google search.) I received it in good shape. The seller is reliable and the price is right.

You can also buy live Nannochloropsis cultures on eBay, but as Hawkeye noted, live algae culture isn't worth the effort. I wasn't meticulous enough to be successful at it. Reef Nutrition's Phyto Feast (dead) works nicely and the live version is also available if you want to spend the extra money.

Regards,
Bob
