Seagrass tank as a fuge filter

I have a skimmer that isn't doing what it should. (26gal bowfront with 10 gal refugium) So I was given the idea to use a larger than 10g tank and put seagrasses, reef mud as a filter. Has anyone done this? Any suggestions. I have a drain hose from the tank that I would put at one end of the tank and have the pump at the other end.

I would love suggestions and if anyone has done this (or has too much greenery that they need to share )

I was thinking of this at one time for a seahorse tank. I was told you need around 5-6" of sand or whatever you want to use.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble with your skimmer. You don't necessarily need to run one on a nano, depending on what you are trying to keep and how religious you are with your water changes.
What kind of skimmer are you using?
Are you running carbon or phosban?
What are you trying to keep?
How frequent are your water changes?
