top trim

not sure - but i imagine any warranty that was on the tank would be voided. Though I imagine a lot of us customize tanks... ::)

i'm looking to build a canopy and using wood to trim the top of the tank so the canopy would be more stable when open. I am just worried about the tank busting open. There is a plastic trip on the perimeter now that goes to the inside to support a class top. The plastic is siloconed to the glass

I always make the trim fit over the sides of the tank. That covers the tank trim witch is what holds the tank together I believe.

What AGA and the rest have done in the last 10 years or so is make the tank trim more of an "integral part" of the tank's "structural integrity". In other words the glass has gotten thinner because the trim prevents the glass from bowing. The thinner glass obviously saves them manufacturing $, and also reduces transportation $.

If you're determined to remove the plastic trim, you can always Eurobrace the top with 1/4" glass. You can have the strips pre-cut at a glass shop pretty cheap for a 20G.
