Tring to set up a 29gal fish only

My girlfriend wants a tank at her house, so i figured id toss her my 29gal. Tring to make this a VERY low budget...Heres what i was thinking....

29gal tank
H.O.T magnum (hang on canister filter, hangs on back of tank pushing 250gph)
Heater
therometer
small maxijet powerhead that i already have laying around
VERY cheap skimmer that will do the trick...ex small seaclone
Maybe, down the road a small hob fuge
Deep sand bed
lots of base rock and some live from my tank on top.

what ya's think?

on a 29 fish only i may not use a deep sand bed. but i do like the look of sand over a bare bottom. so maybe just an inch for the looks

I wouldn't use a dsb in a 29. A DSB needs a minimum surface area in order to be considered effective and a 29 won't cut it. Your better off saving the space for some extra live rock or just more swimming area. Everything else sounds good. You will have to decide weather the small skimmer is worth running at all. If it is not going to do anything then it is just another chore with no benifit to it although if it helps to oxygenate the water some then it is of some benifit.
