I'm using a canon EOS digital Rebel on a tripod. Hook up a USB cable to the camera and pc. You will need the drivers for your camera so that communication is set up between the 2. If you have the original disks there is software called remotecapture. if not, here is a link

The software lets me control ISO, Apeture, White ballance, Exposure, Shutter speed, and shutter speed. I can click shutter release and the camera will focus and shoot (nice when your trying to capture a moving target. Just wait till he gets in front of the lense. I can also use interval timer to take X amount of pictures spaces X minutes or seconds apart. Time lapse photography.
