What do you think, overfeeding? Overstocked?

In a 45g display 12WX24HX36L, 2 small 6 line wrasses, 3 green chromas, 1 large tomato clown, 1 small yellow tang, 1 small convict blenny, 1 coral banded shrimp, 1 peppermint shrimp, frogspawn, fox coral, lots of zoos, large yellow polyp colony, 2 huge hairy green mushrooms. I have an automatic feeder that puts about 10 small omega one sinking pellets in twice a day. I add some meat or Cyclop ease in about once or twice a week. I add some nori once or twice a week.

Is this to much livestock or food?

What kind of skimmer are you using on the tank. Also is there a sump, and if so, how much water is the total volume of the tank and sump together?

I'm assuming you have high nitrates and that's the reason you're asking?

Hi Tony

Need more info re filtration, protein skimmer, lighting and maintenence schedule, ie. water changes etc.

Under proper conditions re the above, you should be OK.

Dom

Total volume is 75 gallons. I just put in a Bermuda Rouge skimmer. This skimmer rocks, I replaced a homemade one3 weeks ago. I am really looking for a sanity check on my bio load. Thanks, TJ

I run a 20 gallon DSB, fuge, sump, chaeto, below the main tank. It has a couple of rocks for the many pods. There is a 600GPH overflow return. On the side is a 10G tank full of LR that is fed by a 1/4ID tube that is plumbed into my return. It in turn flows back into the 20G thank. It has its own powerhead. I love having the little tank on the side. I can do all my water adding and stuff over there and the main system gets buffered by dilution. There is just enough flow so that it only has a 1 degree temperature drop on the return from it.

Lights are in a canopy and are 3 96W PCs with individual reflectors. I have them on two timers so that 1 is on 12h and all three are on 8 hours. I plan on increasing the day time but have not done it. Everybody is very happy in there.

Oh, I also run a phosban reactor as well. It is one of those inline carbon canisters that come with RO units. I just repurposed it. It also is on a line that is plumbed from the return line and flows back into the 20G tank.

Parameters always measure great. Now and then I get a bit more algae than normal and big water changes fix that right up. I do find that I need to vacume the display every other week to get the detritus out. I just can't seem to get it to melt on its own. I have a couple of fighting conchs in there but they don't seem to do a good job. I would put a sand sifting starfish in there but retailers say they eat detritus and reefers say they eat bugs and die. One of those ??? things. I don't want a cuke because it might puke or worse.

Anyway, thanks for the sanity check, I am glad I am not overfeeding or overstocking.

Sand Sifter does not eat algae.

Fighting conches are neat little guys but i'm not sure i'd get more than 1 for a 45 tank. What other snails or hermits do you have?

put more flow across the sand bed. this will help keeping the detritus in suspension. some people only keep 4 or so fish in a 90 others keep 20. all depends on your husbandry, equipment and the size of the fish. you seem to have relativly small fish. i would assume that your fuge is doing well producing pods to keep 2 6 lines alive. the corals you are keeping do not require perfect water so you should be ok. How long has the tank been running with this load on it?
