What is coming out of the bottom of my clam??

This is my first clam guys... What is that white meat coming out of the bottom?? Is that some kind of foot? It seems to be partially under the substrate.

PS: How fast do these guys grow?

Its a foot and they are strong as all hell if they reach the glass on bottum.

If you want to be able to move him in the future, but a clam shell or small flat rock under him. Trying to pull him off of rock or glass later will likely kill him as it is far more likely to tear the foot than remove them from the surface they've adhered to.
