Tank divider

Hey guys whats an easy way to divide a 55 gallon in half. This is a research tank and we are not interested in aesthics at all. The tank is filled already and its only inhabitants are urchins that are a decent size. I was thinking some plexi glass and just use waterweld to hold it to the glass? Im not sure though. Again do not worry about if it can never be removed or looks ugly, etc. Its a research tank and nothing more.

Thanks!

Edit: this is the simple way but would this be strong enough to hold the urchins back? Im not sure how it secures

get a piece of poret foam. cut the dimension slightly wider than the width of the tank.

Close it up, short and sweet but I got my answer thanks horseplay and sunny. We ordered the divider and are going to try that with some silicone to reinforce. If not then eggcrate it is!

Kyle, I'm late to the party and see that you've made a decision. Anyway you are still getting my two cents. When I had a freshwater 75 and had to split it because of aggressive fish, I first made a frame out of CPVC pipe and attached that thick screen material they use to do (I think) needle point. I found it at Walmart. I'll see if I can quickly find in on their site and post a link.

EDIT TO ADD

I'm pretty sure THIS is it.....it's a rigid tight-mesh screen

Thanks paul, your cents are always welcome. I think I've accumulated a few dollars worth by now lol. Did you just use elbows to attach the frame to the center brace?

Here are some pictures to show detail. If you are up in the area, this thing is yours if you want it. I believe the cross pieces are not glued, so they could easily be cut down. I also had to used two of those screen things and ran a thread in-and-out of the matched screens to hold it together at the seam. The entire screen is attached to the pipe with hot glue...and some is failing....but easily removed and reattached. Also note that there are multiple holes in the pipe to allow air to escape and water to enter.

I also took a rasp and "flatted" the fittings where it met the tank glass.

Hope this shows everything.

I've actually found pictures of the divider in the tank. It simply friction fit into place.

And to cover up the pipe, I took a piece of latice and stained and varnished it to match the canopy and stand. It was stuck to the glass with sticky-tack.

I never liked the one from Amazon or similar design. It just moves around and leaves gap at the end. The poret foam stay put easily and takes no effort to install.
