Reefer 250

Picked up a used reefer 250 from a guy in NYC. Nice guy, gave me a free coral as well. Needed some major cleaning but came out nicw. Very minor scratches.

plan to clean the sump and piping tomorrow.

So far the only item I have is a varios pump I got from him as well. I hope its super quiet. Thats gonna be very important to me. If not I can switch it out and keep as a backup. Lmk thoughts on pump.

I plan to run a refugium in the sump, macro only. Not sure if I am gonna get a skimmer or not. I never ran one on my 22 gal so I can manage it. Not sure if I will need it for this one. Let me know your thoughts.

I will use my 22 gal tank to seed this tank. It will be a mixed reef. I am planning to get a hippo tang. Lmk if u guys dont recommend for a tank in this kind of size

this is what Im thinking for equipment

Reefbreeder light (up in the air with this light)
Reefwave 25
Skimmer?
Media reactor?
Ice Cap ATO (sum1 selling on r2r brand new so its pending)

I currently use tropic marin as my salt and im gonna stick with it. Best salt in my experience.

anybody know how to get rid of this stain on the glass? Seems like where the waterline was. Tried vinegar and no go.

Have these two parts to the sump. Not sure how this all connects hahahaha

did just see that there are filter sock holders. Not to thrilled with that. I like the idea of using sponges and throwing them out as needed. Any thoughts on what options I have here?

Use a razor blade and some vinegar, that should take it off

It looks like a sump and the tall one an ato, but I'm not sure.

The small tank, is the ato that comes with the reefer tanks, but I'm assuming that the other person may have used the tall tank as an ato or a maybe a fuge.

Simple solution. Get the Red Sea filter media cups. I believe that they're non-standard size so you'll have to get them from Red Sea. Just use those with filter floss which you can toss. That's what I did when I had my RSR 450 stock sump.

Like Trio said, the small tank is the ATO reservoir that comes with the RSR tanks. It sits on top of the sump right above the filter socks. It's a gravity-fed ATO that's attached to the float valve. Some people convert it into a refugium though.

The tall tank isn't something standard that comes with the RSR. Not sure where it's from, but probably they used it as a larger ATO reservoir outside of the cabinet.

Anyone know if these pupes can be taken apart? Alot of gunk inside. Would like to do a thorough cleaning. I did run vinegar water through ut but some of it looks pretty bad.

It should twist off

Ok update. I was able to clean the pipes very well using bleach. Will try to dechlorinate and soak in vinegar water for awhile.

I completed the rockscape which took me awhile. I wanted to be a little more open this time around as I will be going with the fish heavy route. Let me know what you think.

Wanted to get everyones thoughts on the refugium. It will be 7 gallons. I know I want chaeto but what other recommendations to people have? I have some extra dry rock I can throw in there but how about sand? Should I add in there as well? And what type? Or should I just go with miracle mud? How about those marine blocks? Let me know your ideas .

the small rocks in the front btw will go in the refugium.

Im also planning to run the rock in RO water to pull any nasties out of it.

i heard someone on youtube keep the dry rock in RO water with a high amount of kalwasser. Does anyone know why or how this is beneficial in anyway?

Need some help on the lights. I am all about astehtic. I dont want the radions. Call me wut u like but I just like to be different.

under cabinet looks great!. Love that sump. You might think about using a soft tubing connection from the pump to pvc pipe. You may have vibration noise with the pipe to pump
