They can not be housed with regular clownfish with normal fins, their swimming is impeded and they are a easy target for getting picked on...
That's a pretty broad statement, i know many people keeping magnificas, maybe mertens not so much. Just cause you know stickheads and coral people doesnt mean Im the only person keeping them.
Wild
The size of the tank isnt really an issue as long as its not a 40 gallon tank.
The issue is ANEMONES. The more you have the less likely pairs are to squabble. In the Ocean in a 2 foot by 2 foot area you can have 10 anemones and three pairs of clowns. As long as you have enough anemones...
Ed doesn't matter how small, anemones are like octopus with their ability to get into the tiniest of places. Tell Chris I'd like to try one on one of my anemone tanks with the sponge. It's a great idea the tunze wavebox is much safer if it doesn't have a foam cover
My only concern which is also a concern with any open grate pumps is anemones. Is seems like this would not be conducive to keep anemones becuase if they detach it doesnt look like anyhting is stopping it from becoming soup.
Clowns
Any type of angel has a chance of nipping, what did you feed it when you do.
BTA are more forgiving with parameters but you should always make sure they are solid.
I have had the unfortunate luck of seeing a hippo tang repeatedly pick on btas.
The BTA moved into the hippos sleeping...
