Just to clarify here since I got a couple of weird Pm's...I am in no way against captive breeding, not in any way!
All I am saying is that I have no issues with this approach as well,they both have upsides and downsides, that's all.

Well there is no difference where the fish that are invasive come from, be it home grown or bio engineered. All of florida is overtaken by invasive species, from Iguanas, to parrots, to snakes, and all kinds of fish. More impressive to me is that you can fish Oscars and all kinds of cichlids in...
...because that is what his hobby is all about! ;D if we didn't like to mess with our tanks we would all be breeding guppies...just add water and they breed! Pun intended at Paul!!! ;D
But honestly...Paul, in comparsion, how many times more do you mess with your reef tank over the guppy tank...

when I lived in Frazer, PA I used only tap with no issues...moved to Edison, NJ and had to change to ro/di since my tank became a bloody mess! If your son is having success with tap in your house, so should you but...if the water quality fluctuates so will your tank!

I don't think it's ich, maybe a fungus or an unpleasant hitchhicker? When I had "anchor" bugs in freshwater fish I pulled the fish out and yanked the thing out with tweesers, then treat the area with "bio bandage". Not knowing for sure what it is makes it tought to recomend you to do...
