    Catching Fish In A Reef

Dan you are the man!!!! Dan's fish trap strikes again. I finally caught that Powder Blue that was munching down my SPS tips. There was much rejoicing among my SPS. The fiend has been banished to the sump, and will be traded in. Herb

    Catching Fish In A Reef

Anyone have any tricks or tips (besides spear fishing, which I am considering!) for catching a fairly large Powder Blue tang in a 180? This guy's coral munching days are coming to a close. I don't want to tear down my rockwork if I can help it. Much of my colonies/frags are attached to the rocks...

Fooli ng Around with New Phosphate Colorimeter

I just got a Milwaukee/Martini low phosphate colorimeter. Nice unit, cheaper than a Hanna, comes with reagents for 100 tests and a case for about $170.00. Just mixed up some IO for a water change, and just for laughs, checked the Phosphate level. It came in at .01, which is not too shabby. I...

    King/Queen of the tank

I have a very large Powder Blue Tang, and he is the king of my 180. He is a bully though, and an occasional coral muncher. Just don't believe everything a fish is "supposed to do" (ie. Not eat corals). Everyone I speak to about my PBT munching corals (SPS to boot!) have been fairly surprised. Herb

    Another Trigger Jumps

I can't believe that I had another trigger jump out of my tank! I just got a very nice pink tail trigger from Ocean Gallery II in North Plainfield. He was eating great, and was even out roaming around the tank checking it out. When I got home from work today, I was looking for the trigger, and...

Some frags available for the meeting: 3 Blue tip stags, nice pale blue tips. Decently encrusted on plugs, one fairly branched already, 2 about to branch lots of fresh growth. Pink birds nest, fresh cut unmounted will frag on request. I can get some decent sized frags off of the colony. Green...

Water Change Disasters - A New Twist!!!

It's water change time! A new 45 Gallon Brute full of my custom blended IO/Reef Crystals cocktail. I turned off all of my pumps, heaters, skimmer, ATO and other tank related gear in preparation for my water change. Pumped out my 40 Gal sump and was ready to refill. My 10 year old son at the...

    My First Jumper

My blue jaw trigger went in search of a better life outside of the reef and met with a tragic end! I hadn't seen him for a day or so, and he wasn't in his usual hidey hole. I took out the flashlight and there he was behind the tank on the floor, dried up and covered in dust and dirt. Not a...

    Powder Blue SPS Muncher

I usually give my tangs a 1/2 sheet of "nori" a day. I have a Naso and a Sailfin besides the Powder blue. Do you think this is enough grazing? I also see the tangs picking around on the rock occasionally.

    Powder Blue SPS Muncher

I have a Powder Blue Tang in my 180 that seems to be developing a taste for a blue tipped stag and a teal acro. Has anyone ever experienced this type of behavior in a powder blue? He is a really beautiful fish, and I would hate to boot him out of the reef. I am wondering what could be the cause...

Stan is the Man For SPS Frags in Central NJ

Anyone who lives in the central Jersey area in need of any SPS frags, Stan (smcooler) is the man. Great tank, great guy, great selection. He has tons of mounted frags and can also fresh cut some for you. I have dealt with him on several occasions, and all of his stuff is top notch. It is worth...

Diatom filter verses Ozone Generators - any suggestions ????

I used the big Vortex filter for a number of years, and still do occasionally. I use it to clean out my sump by stirring up all of the gunk, and then running the diatom until the water clears up. I also would do the same with the display tank on occasion. This thing really gets rid of any minute...

    Critters Anyone????

I could use a few peppermints and other assorted odds and ends. Anyone up for a critter order? I am in South Brunswick and could handle the order. I am not sure of any upcoming group buys. If we go over $99.00 shipping and box is free. Any takers? Let me know. Herb

    Skimmer Question

I have been running a Bermuda Aquatics BPS-5C on my 180 for a couple of months and it is by far the best skimmer I have used. Currently the skimmer outflow pipe is under the water level in my sump. Will this affect the performance? Can I cut the outflow pipe so it is above the waterline without...
