Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I know you dont know me and Ive never been through a similar experience so I really dont have much advice.
But feel free to post here and vent. I can promise you I will be listening.
Looking good. Some additions since I saw it in person.
This is going to be one sweet setup once its all said and done.
Any new pics with all the rock in there?
Thanks for the replies.
I guess Im just being impatient. I am going on vacation the first week of June anyway...so I wouldnt be adding fish until after that.
But I was hoping to get my params in acceptable range so that I can add a clean up crew. I would like the clean up crew to be well...
2 weeks ago I placed 60lbs of LR and 60lbs of sand in my tank. Since then I have been scrubbing the rock every few days, running a skimmer and today I did a 20g water change.
Prior to that my nitrites and nitrates were incredibly high.
After the water change my nitrates were lower but my...

A dremel with a diamond cutting blade. Any cutting blade with the dremel will work but Ihave found there is less tissue damage with the diamond blade, and fewer pieces of rock flying in the air.

CPR makes a good product but they can get pricey, especially for the larger models.
Perhaps building your own is an option?
Its a pretty simple design. You have a pump that sits in the main tank and pumps water up into the fuge, it moves over baffles and through macroalgae, then gravity...
I always liked my Magnut Hang-On canister filter. Quiet, small and effective. Suppose it depends on how big the tank is though.
I am getting another one just to put on the tank after water changes to help clear up the water.
Hmmm...maybe I will look elsewhere
I did come across some great sales at www.toofishy.com
Free shipping over $100 (and next day for me here in Philly)
Looks like I can get just about the same prices there.
I will take a look at reeftopias website as well.
OK
So last night I did something similar to what you suggested.
I brushed the rock and used a turkey baster...while it was in the tank.
My skimmer is going crazy and my MJ1200 for water movement is picking up a lot of dust in the foam prefilter.
I plan on doing this every night for another...
Re: I couldn't help myself (Remember the guy who tried to rip me for the skimmer
Personally I say LEAVE the feedback.
Sure it takes a hit against your %, but anyone who reads the feedback will easily see that the other guy is off his rocker.
Plus they can look at HIS feedback which is...
I tried a turkey baster but some of this stuff is really caked on. I wish I had been more diligent when I was first putting the rock in.
The way I have it set up I could probably reach in and scrub it while it is in the tank.
That would cause a sand storm (or silt storm) and the stuff woudl...
My new live rock has been in the tank for a few days now. I am noticing that the muddy residue hasnt gotten pushed off the rock like I hoped it would...but rather is just sitting on the rock.
Should I bother scrubbing the rock? Would it be a good idea to remove the silt mud or just leave it?
I...
