So I bought camz28's 30gallon tank to use for my sump/fuge for my 55gal.
I created three main sections with the two 1" apart baffles before it gets to the return.
Water overflows into the first compartment where the skimmer is and heater will be, then into the 2nd where the refugium is...
I just added some slime coat and sadly it suddenly produced about an inch of bubbles in my sump. How long a can I expect this to last until it goes away?
As a result, my skimmer cup is full of water and if I empty it, it is only a matter of time before it fills up again.
Lessson learned...no...
Another option is an alarm. I forgot how much I paid for it, but it has a thermometer piece that goes in the water; other than displaying the time and temperature if the temperature goes below a certain level or above a certain level, the alarm goes off.
Didn't know about the primer and then the cement. Back to lowes for some primer. Clear PVC would be great, if they have it, I'll get it, but won't go with anything to restrict flow.
Already having enough fun as it is trying to keep the makeshift sump at a steady water level. I blame the kinks...
So I'm struggling with hard to flex tubing between my tank and my on the side sump. I'm wondering if this is the reason why I see everyone using PVC vs. a clear plastic tube?
Or is it more due to bacterial reasons? I will be swapping out the tubing for PVC this weekend.
I was swayed towards the HOB approach, but after hearing the thoughts here about reverse lighting and having a bigger fuge and already having the equipment...I'm more towards the on the side approach on the floor since I can't fit things underneath. The only thing I'm missing is a 20gal tank. I...
I was going to buy a 20 gallon tank and set things up myself.
I was going to use the lights from my FW tank for the sump/fuge to start and change it to something better at a later date.
Not sure what size the refugium would be. It would have enough room as it's mainly the skimmer taking up most...
I don't have any room under the tank in the stand to put the sump/refugium, so it would be on the side.
The option #1 would be HOB Skimmer
option #2 is skimmer sump model
option #2
the only thing on the side of the tank is the HOB overflow
in the sump is the refugium, and heater.
I was hoping to get some various opinions with Pros/Cons on (non drilled tank):
Setup #1
HOB Refugium
Canister Filter w/ overflow mod to grab water from the top
Protein Skimmer
Setup #2
On the side of the tank (no room for underneath)
In Sump Refugium
Protein Skimmer
I was currently going...
