this is more of an observation post than anything. i have about 30 pounds of live rock that I am "cooking" in a rubbermaid container with 2 powerheads and a heater. Its been in there for a month now and my routine is that I change out 100% of the water every saturday and replace with fresh RODI...
i got two of these monsters for my already cycled 29g. I acclimated them for about a half hour and they are now sliming all over the tank in the moonlights. Will they try to leave the tank? Is there anything else I should know about these bohemoths?
what are those little tubular looking things that I see on live rock in the wedges? They look like little dead worms. most of them are the color of the rock but just wormy looking. Are they bad?
Does anyone have supplemental sunlight peeking through the window on their tanks? How do the corals respond to this? Would it encourage extra algae growth?
for a 36" long tank, how would it look to have 2 150 watt halides, one with 10K color and the other with 14 or 20K for coral pop.. Has anyone tried this yet? Do you think it would look ridiculous? I would assume that at the center the two colors would blend nicely.
I just rescaped the 75, it used to be a high light co2 and ferts setup but I went away to costa rica for the summer and couldnt maintain it. So now its all low light plants and I think it looks good for low light. Lets see your tanks!
I've always wondered if anyone who has reef setups in their main room with a large window facing a street or whatever has ever had to deal with law enforcement curiousity. With halides and many hundreds of watts of grow light seeping through windows has anyone here ever been questioned on what...
attached is a pic of what i was told is Hydnophora.. again I aquired these corals from a friend who got rid of his nano because he is starting a new tank. So now im trying to figure out what some of them are.
Does this look like its in good shape? the dark parts of it seem to have raised in the...
I have a coral that I dot know what it is. It looks like a blastomussa but is totally hard. It has that same blasto look and its red and pink but I have yet to see any type of movement from it. Its just colorful. Im thinking it may not be an acan but just want to make sure.
how the hell do you attached the thing? It has screws which "screw into the pump but it wont screw on! Does anyone have a picture of what it should look like? I have an oily film on the surface of my water and I cant figure this box out.
I really cant wait to go from a small frag to a large frag. Tell me, to those of you on here who have graduated and moved on to the next level, what did it feel like? How did you celebrate? :P
I got the up to 75g Aqua C remora used off of RC.com. Its only been running a day and on the directions it says to let the thing go for a week or 2 before it really starts working well. Is that due to it being run in a brand new tank or do they mean for a new unit that has never been run before...
Hey, I have a 29g with a 150 watt MH pendant, do you think this is enough for mostly all soft corals and LPS? How about SPS? The tank is 30 X 12 X 18. Thanks..
Chris
im getting a remora next week and im a newbie. Do protein skimmers also create some current in your aquarium? I have a 29g Nano and the pump is a MJ 1200.
For those of you who test or have had great experiences with RODI salt and fresh from various stores in the area, which one do you prefer for the best water? Are there any to avoid? I have gotten mine from Tropaquarium and Fish Tails in Brick. Lets hear it!
Chris
I have a 29g nano and I was thinking of eventually adding an ATO and also a sump to have more water volume and make some equipment more discreet. I know that its best to have the tank drilled with an overflow box but is there another way to easily add a sump to an already up and running system...
Im quarantining some live rock in a bin with a powerhead and a heater to wait for the algae to die. I have been reading about how much of a nuisance worms can be. Is there any way to treat the rock with something to kill the worms while I am waiting? Its going to be a few more weeks until the...
Is there a product that you can buy to keep your corals strong with nutrients? Like something that you can put in with weekly water changes that adds all the essential nutrients they need? I have mostly LPS and soft. Is there one of those products that come in bottles that takes care of...
