    Pruning cheato

Hi Ken, I just pull mine apart and give it away, It is probably better to take out the older because as it grows it is taking the algae nutrient stuff out of your water. Some even sell it, someone is always asking for some.

I have the 24w with a 7100K bulb, the cheato grows like weeds. I just noticed some small mushrooms in there. I'm due for a new bulb I was thinking of a 50/50. Since you have the bigger one, you might want to go 36W because it would be a longer bulb. The 24w bulb is only about 14" long...

You can put a handfull of cheato in to start, and as it grows you will have to keep removing some. You'll will have to try it and see how much flow you have. you want a good flow, but not to much that its racing through and dumping back into your tank.

I would go with the biggist CPR with a built in skimmer, that you could fit/afford. I have one running and the critters that are in there and dump into my tank are incredible. ;D

    cut tank stand?

It would all depend on how the stand was constructed. If you would be cutting out supports I would say yes, However if the bottom is a full piece of plywood, hollow underneath and you were to cut out just a section in the middle I would say no. Can you post a picture? It might help.
