    Melting Candy Cane

Thanks Phyl, The polyps are on the outside edge. They are growing close to some zoos (You know...the ones you told me were poisonous). They've been in close proximity for a while. Maybe they've finally gotten too close. I'm sure that's the problem. I'll still check the parameters for the...

    Melting Candy Cane

My candy cane looks like it's melting...literally. Some of the polyps are loosing their shape and sliding off their stem. Any idea what might cause the polyps to loose their shape? The remaining polyps (About 30) look fine.

    Heat spike

Thanks Kenny Z. I will be at the meeting this weekend! Since the original frags were from NJRC meetings more than a year ago, it only seems fitting to replace with more frags from NJRC. Hope to see you Sunday. Ken.

    Heat spike

One of my heaters broke and caused the temperature in the tank to spike to 92 degrees. I lost three corals, a hammer, frogspawn and yellow leather. I have GSP that are still recovering, but seem to have made it through OK. Everything else in the tank seems to be doing well. The yellow leather...

    Substrate question

I used a fine grain white sand (live) on the bottom of my tank. (I forget exactly where it came from) I also have a diamond goby that keeps it clean. After a year and a half, the sand looks great. Specs on the tank: 120 gallon, 150 lbs of live rock, the sand is about two inches deep.

    Flatworms

Is it possible to have flatworms in your refugium but not in your tank? I've definitely got them in the fuge. Tried flatworm exit (FWE) but they came back after a few weeks. However, I don't see them anywhere in the main tank. I have two Cleaner and 1 Coral Banded Shrimp. Could they be keeping...

    Current USA lights out

Thanks Phyl! A while ago there was a thread about all the 'things' we've learned since getting started in the hobby. Now I can add electrician to the list. ;D

    Current USA lights out

All, Thanks for the help. Just to follow up...it was,as everyone suggested, a bad ballast. I guess because I've had the light for more than a year, they did not send a free replacement. Overall, the customer service department was courteous and quick to respond. However, there is an...

    Nighttime LEDs

My clowns used to hang around at the top of the tank...for months. Within the past two months, they've begun hosting in a sabea (sp?) anemone. They even stay in at night.

    Current USA lights out

Wow...that is good news! I thought I was going to have to buy a(nother) expensive part from someone who's kids I'm not already putting through college. ;D Thanks all, I'll follow up this weekend. Ken.

    Current USA lights out

I got home from work tonight and half my lights were out. Let me explain... I have a 260w 60" Current-USA light. I actually consists of 4 separate 65w bulbs, 2 10K/6400K and 2 420/460 actinics. The light is set up so that two lights are on one switch and 2 on another. Well, one strip is out...

    GB Live Rock

Edwin, Haven't done much with it yet. Like John, I haven't been in a rush to get it in 'production.' Last weekend I did a major water change. Just tested and the water and the levels all look good. I haven't seen any major life (yet) exept that there is a patch of coral that looks promising...

    Fragging a Red Tree Sponge

I just received a red tree sponge from SaltwaterFish.com. The piece they sent looks great. The web site says the piece will be 4-5 inches but the piece I received is about 9-10 inches. My question is...can I simply break the sponge in half to have two 5" pieces? Any help would be appreciated...

    Phytoplankton?

I sort of have a 'Phyto Gone Wild' experiment going. I have (what was supposed to be) a frag tank. The short version is that the water is green and I can't seem to get it back to clear. On the positive side, I started placing (approx) 2 gallons of the green water into my display tank (150...
