    Back from MACNA!!

I completely agree with Rich! Phyl was like a well-oiled machine chugging away and without a doubt has done and continues to do great things for us. Without hessatation thinking of the club the whole way! Thanks Phyl for all you are doing. LOL! Me too. A whole 2 pics over the weekend. I’m...

    Tieing it all together

I wouldn’t worry about the “dirty water”. All the water is the same for the most part. Use some pre-filter pads if you want to catch the particulate matter before it enters the frag tank. The only down side is if you are trying to chill the frag tank. By the time the water comes out of the...

    Tieing it all together

I would just install a large closed loop on the frag tank then. Better 1 large pump them many power heads IMO. I just finished mine with an oceansmotions unit. Here is a pic of the plumbing on my 120. HIH and good luck. Keep us updated.

    Need Advice

You can run the system with or without the bio-balls. Bottom line is they cannot create nitrates unless there is nutrient being added. Yes they are a very fast and effective way to break down nutrients. They’re covered in bacteria that convert ammonia into nitrate, then nitrate faster then a...

    Sea Hare Info.

The last paragraph indicated they might predate on various animals. http://www.reefs.org/library/article/r_toonen18.html I’ll keep looking.

    Sea Hare Info.

Hmm not sure? How big are the bite marks? I doubt from your list it is any of the fish or even the inverts. Except maybe the cowries? I thought they are nor reef safe? I will have to do some homework I have never kept one since I was told to avoid them years ago. I know they are not usually reef...

    Sea Hare Info.

Here is a link to Dolabella auricularia I have kept them in the past and they never inked. Not even when bothered by my shrimp. I also lost on in the store to a power head and no ink. http://www.seaslugforum.net/factsheet.cfm?base=dolaauri And here is a link to some pics I took...

    Fragging Help

LOL they will do fine. Just try to make a clean cut in one quick motion. I would be more worried about you. Xenia stinks when out of the water. One of the worst smelling corals IMO. :-X You would be surprised at how much a healthy coral can deal with when fragging. Let us know how you make out.

    Fragging Help

There are a number of ways to fasten Xenia. First I would take an exacta knife or clean razor blade to cut a section away. Try to get a piece with multiple stalks if you can. Now you can use a loose tie with fishing line, cotton thread, or a rubber band. Place the string between a couple stalks...

    MACNA Check In!

I’ll be there. 8) I arrive later on Friday and will be there till sometime on Monday. I’m booked at the Hyatt where the convention is held. As for sessions? I have no idea at this point. I hope to make as many as possible. There are so many great speakers for this event. I will be running...

    Corals in carry on?

I would suggest contacting the airline first. I know one airline says no way but I forget what one that was. When I went to IMAC I brought frags for friends and took some home. I flew continental and they never even questioned me. I use the pint soup containers from my local Chinese take out...

    The Fish Tank 46

I went there this afternoon. Nice place with lots of tanks. They just opened Friday but they already have a good selection of fish. As with any new store there were some dead/dieing animals. But that is to be expected with any new system. Takes some time to work out the bugs. Pricing looked Ok...

    question on probes

Replace the probes once a year. Also Fred I was just reading that you should only use a Q-tip or a paper towel for the ORP probe. Toothbrushes can remove the coating and then the silver (in most cases) inside the probe can enter the water. Look on RC or RF for more info but I was looking into...

    Meeting July 31st Stanhope/Hapatcong (Nagel)

Yeah that stinks but I’d still be stoked with a tiger shark that big. It must have been one hell of a fight.

    Meeting July 31st Stanhope/Hapatcong (Nagel)

It may be getting hammered since I also posted this on RC. I think they only allow so many hits per day per person. The pics are too large to post here so maybe try again later??? S

    Meeting July 31st Stanhope/Hapatcong (Nagel)

Ok gang I will be there unless something at work comes up. I’m on call 24x7   >:( I will bring some gourmet pretzels and some beer for the group. Sounds like it’s going to be a good turnout and as usual a good time. As a part of the FragExchange booth at IMAC this year I learned a lot from Eric...

New & Interesting Things Still Growing

LOL it was a good guess. Like I said I had the scroll in my tank and it drove me nuts to get and ID. Then it made me crazy to get rid of it. It started to spread fast without fish in there. Once the fish were there, and alot of physical removal by me, it slowly went away. It never hurt the tank...

New & Interesting Things Still Growing

Both are algae’s. The first is Padina scroll algae. Common on Fiji live rock. I had some trouble with it in the beginning but soon my herbivores took care of it. The second is Neomeris Sp. – Fuzzy Tip Algae or Spindle weed. Both are in the Reef Invertebrates book by Anthony Calfo and Bob...
