I agree that the Aquamedics MH Fixtures are some of the best (if not the best) MH fixture made - price, quality, looks - etc.. - you did the right thing with the adjustments - goes to show you too much of a good thing can kill as fast as the opposite.
BTW - I did have one problem with that...
Definitely the light change - just going from a single 175 to a 250 is dramatic as the 250s are much brighter and if the change was from a SE 175 to a DE 250 HQI - then you also went to a much more focused light (narrower light dispersion) - then you went from 3 175 to 4 250 - this is almost a...
IMO and practical experience - if you use a calcium reactor properly (with CO2 and it is all set correctly - slow drip into tank maybe one drop every 2 seconds and the PH of the effluent is correct which is around 6, and the bubble counter is correct - drives PH of effluent - which is in most...

I am also using these exact Home Depot / Lowes Rubbermaid containers (different sizes) but they are inside a Rubbermaid 100 gallon commercial sump made from a completely different material (it is actually a farm animal watering container). The material for the 100 gallon is extruded foam, while...
Yes - I had my share of $200.00 fish dried up behind the tank (why do they always land behind the tank??) - right now a temporary cover (egg-crate light diffuser) is there - the holes are 1/4" - too small for the larger males - the new cover is being constructed as per a Reef Central - window...
Thanks John - your help with the design (your basement sump post is GREAT!!) and advice has been terrific.
The million dollar question - we are all impatient and I want to get stock into the tank ASAP!!! - considering the live rock that has cooked (also pre-cured) for 4 weeks, the live sand...

How do you automatically add RO/Kalkwasser for evaporation with such a huge sump - in my old 70 gallon tank / 30 gallon sump setup - all I did was use a float switch in the sump - if a gallon or 2 evaporated - that would mean a 1 or 2" drop in level which would start the pump to replenish...
Drain caps - all leaked - lots of plumbers tape (went through a total of 9 rolls) and a secret ingrediant - silicone grease over the tape or on the female threads - makes a better seal and you can tighten the heck out of it without getting the cap stuck in place or destroying the threads - the...
I am in the process of building out a new 180 gallon Reef (72 x 24 x 24) in my Family room, all plumbing is through the floor to the basement - I used many references, but by far the best was NJRC's John S_323 - his pics and descriptions and design were just what I needed to finalize the basic...
I didn't explain what is in the picture - you may have figured it out - the differences (other than the sloppy purple priming job) - is the "P" trap or "U" trap as some call it - that is the series of elbows that form a "U" to trap sewer gases - they come pre-made in 2" and 1 1/2" (a lot neater)...
I found the problem - it was in fact the output of the skimmer (the skimmer is an older Giant Euroreef CS 12-2 with 2 Sedra 5000 bubble wheel pumps) - the overflow from the skimmer contained too much air and was directly over the 2" Bulkhead input to the return pump.
I will post pics on a new...
Re: Tying into the Basement - Pic Intensive - John - Plumbing problems
John
I copied your design almost exactly and took your advice to increase the size of the manifold to 3" - I also added the check valves from Home Depot/Lowes to the return to the tank and to the automatic water changer (to...
