wow. this is almost a record for me!
I'm 90% done building the stand- All it needs now is the top (I'm gonna wait until I get the tank to cut it to size), some hole patching, then stain.
I got done at 4pm, it took just a little bit over 2 hours.... Here's the build pictures step by step:
The...
I'm back from Home Depot (whew, what a drive through ice lined streets!)
Spent just over $100 including tax
1 Piece of 4x8 18mm Birch plywood (it looks to be almost 3/4") $39.95. I had the guy cut the wood vertically 30 by 48 inches, then ripped another cut at 26 inches (by 48), and another...
still thinking about the tank size.
I will be going to Homedepot tomorrow to get some plywood to get my butt rolling. I should be receiving the 250w halide sometime wednesday from a fellow member.....
I will try and decide tomorrow what size tank I'll be going with...
Hey Bill, it's sad to finally see you take it apart...
You'll be back in the hobby before you know it, you know you will be!
Good luck with the sale bud-
and by the way guys, Bill's a great guy to deal with. Whoever gets all or most of the stuff, you won't be dissapointed. I'll vouch for that!
I've had a glasscages acrylic tank and I would agree that the workmanship is a bit sloppy, customer service could use a bit of help.....they built the tank wrong (frag tank). However for the price, you really can't complain too much especially since it only costs a fraction that other places...
Here starts the preliminary picture taking documenting the build.
It's gonna go in the corner of the living room. I share the house with 2 other people and my girl so I had to get the OK of the other two. At this point, my girl lets me do whatever as long as it's within reason and keeps me...
Reason I'm going with the 250 watter is so I can share bulbs between tanks. I will have access to my other tank since I'm the only one authorized to do water changes, lol. I plan on having the light elevated at least 20 inches from the water's surface. But then again, I just may end up with a...
Absolutely correct.
Now, let's make things interesting. Of all the "lazy" folks who posted, how many years have you guys been in the saltwater (specifically reef) hobby.
I'll start with me: 10 years reef, 5 more years for FOWLR
-I check salinity on fresh made saltwater only
-I don't test for parameters anymore
-I throw a handful of raw Icemelt in the sump once every few weeks in the sump for Mg
-I've only changed the first filter in the RO unit in the past year, and oh yeah, the RO and DI aren't in the canisters...
Sup peeps.
Not an upgrade, but rather an auxiliary tank away from my custom 60X20X20 tank in Galloway.
This one's gonna have sand I think, but I still have to come to terms with it.
The plan so far:
-Custom stand to elevate the tank a minimum of 30 inches, no canopy
-Marineland 45 gallon...
cut the lighting a little bit with a shorter photoperiod. Doing with sugars will reduce the DOC's in the tank including any yellowing compounds in the water thereby making it clearer. The burnt tips of your coral (s) can be reduced by placing a screen mesh or cutting the light. Plus upgrading...
hey danny, i think I'm gonna do a 40 breeder at my new place in PA. You drilled the sides of the tank, do you know if it's possible to drill the back? I'm thinking of doing a closed loop system, no filtration, no overflow, no skimmer.
Stuff's in boxes and the new job finally begins. I still have random frags, doubles if you may that I can spare until I setup a small tank in PA
I am available on Sunday the 3rd after 2pm, and I will be home until 8 pm pr so and then packing up the truck and leaving for a few days since I...
okay, it looks like your flow is still a little bit much. The only flow I had going towards my recovering brain was from underneath since I had it sitting on an eggcrate rack. The flow was minimal, so slow that I could feed the coral at night with mashed pieces of shrimp without being blown...
what kind of flow do you have? is there water circulation around the lobo but not directly at it? and the part of the skeleton exposed- is it pure white or is there a greenish tinge?
