Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Best advice overall that I've learned to save money:
Be kind to your LFS staff!
The nicer (but not stalker-y) you are to your LFS, the more they will take care of you. I've seen LFSs take in fish when their clients had massive failures of their tanks (*cracks, leaks, faulty bulkheads, etc.)...
Between the two- I know the Marine Buffer should work. Theoretically anything with a pharmaceutical grade calcium in it should burn the flesh with direct application and kill the anemone if eaten.
On the anemone's stinging, individual reactions will vary do to differences in people. Aiptasia...
How close is the anemone to the zoas?If the Aiptasia is right, smack-dab in the middle of the zoa colony, then possibly, if the water is too warm. The further away from the colony, the lower the possibilities of injuring your zoas. Although, zoas are pretty hardy and pretty tolerant. So, at...
Lol. If you've got a good Copperband, then you shouldn't see any ever again. But, every now and again, you can find a Copperband just doesn't seem to have any interest in Aiptasia. It's rare to find a butterfly that won't eat Aiptasia, since most butterflies love 'em!
It's a shame Whitebird...
I have also heard and played with injecting lemon juice with a hypodermic syringe into the anemone.... but it has always had questionable results in my opinion. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. I also wouldn't use it in a small system. :-\
If you use a pharmaceutical grade (synthetic)...
IMHO- I prefer the longer aspect ratios of tanks, whether it's a hex, column, or long tank. I much prefer things with a 3:1 to 5:1 ratio of length to height than the approximately 2:1 ratio of a 90 or 120. To me, the longer tanks give a more sweeping, panoramic view. In addition to that...
I would check, calibrate, check, calibrate, and re-check your probe before doing anything. Ed, I've seen your tank, and it looked incredible. If nothing has changed with the conditions of your livestock, I would very much doubt that your pH is into dangerous bounds. Your corals were very open...
I know how you feel. My pico certainly suffered some ill effects when we lost power at the house last week for four hours. Brr.... boy was it a shock to see the temp down to 66-68!
Still, I always keep in mind, it could be worse. I, for one, certainly don't relish the thought of running to cut...
Thanks! I'm already noticing how awesome people are on here!
Yeah, I made a big mistake with the design thing. It seemed like a smart idea at the time... but I've said that about a lot of things.
*crosses fingers* I'm just really hoping to settle into either a good design position and save up...
I think it varies as a state by state thing when it comes to the blue ring. Marine Fish and Reef, Marietta, GA, had one for a month or two at the most. It was only the size of a quarter, and they were keeping it in a Critter Cage. *shiver* Until it laid eggs and died, I kept a good bit of...
Strange, but true, Exotic Reef Imports had blue ring octopus on their availability lists for MONTHS at around this time last year. And, they were only $5-8 wholesale. Crazy crazy.
*golf clap* that is the most direct, and yet the most creative way to put it... bravo. I've never heard it put that way, and may have to steal that for my own usage. :D
Ditto. I've always been curious... but I can't scuba dive at all. If a group from here goes out, you and I can hang out in the (relative) shallows together, kay?
... I just realized... I never introduced myself.
Hey- I'm Kat.
I'm Jersey born and bred, however, I decided to take a jaunt to Atlanta to study graphic design. Through college, I rediscovered my fascination with aquatics and animals by working at one of the major LFS in the area with an...
;D
My old manager actually made an Aiptasia and bristleworm farm of one of those minibows to give to a friend of his. They both greatly enjoyed the endeavor... even though, by most hobbyist standards, it was considered to be a hideous tank. I thought the pics were hilarious, personally.
I <3 Joe's Juice, and highly recommend it above some techniques, but mostly for the entertainment value of watching those little beasties shrivel up post treatment.
Use it in combination with peppermint shrimp (*Joe's Juice to get the Aiptasia too large for the shrimp to eat, and the shrimp...
