    Live Rock Question

Ok, so let's bring in the argument of light porous rock versus dense rock and that the porous rock holds much more bacteria. So why are people on this forum saying stay away from dense rock, branch rock, etc, when your dried rock starts with no bacteria and will only have as much as the seeding...

    Live Rock Question

And where's all of that beautiful life and colors. You have to bring your own? This sounds like an ad for live rock that you would see at 2:00 in the morning on cable TV with the Ginso knife and the pet rock. Oh wait, I can take my pet rock and make it alive by throwing in my tank with some...

    Live Rock Question

Someone enlighten me on Marco Rocks. Basically it seems like it is dead rock which is now a decoration, and you need to cycle it the same way you need to cycle your average fish tank so that the rock can becomes live? Please tell me that there is more to this than that. If not, I see a new side...

    Enough lighting for an RBTA?

I know watts per gallon isn't a good rule. That is why I threw in the tank height as well. I know this nem doesn't require as much light as others. Ken

    Tonga versus Fiji rock

Carlo, I guess I was generalizing when saying Tonga and Fiji as a whole. I saw some Fiji rock the other day that looked like old Pocillipora type. Is this also not good to use? I am picking up rock in the next few days so I want to try to figure what is good quality/ I want to go to a store...

    Enough lighting for an RBTA?

After learning first hand that it is not best to mix nems and corals, I am setting up a second tank for a pair of Clarkii's and a RBTA, amd some polyps, and mushrooms. The tank is a 46 gallon bow (20" deep). I plan on using a Sunset Supply Tek 5 which has individual reflectors. T-5 lighting (4...

    Tonga versus Fiji rock

Actually I got your post mixed up withg Carlo's: "Tonga comes in two common types (although others are available) and they are slab and branch. Both types are very dense and not very porous so that don't contribute a lot to bio filtration compared to other rock types." Someone reading this...

    Tonga versus Fiji rock

You are pulling a sentence out of context. Your comment is correct but not relevant to what I am saying. My point is in the next senetence: "but I would safely say that there are tons of people with tanks of Fiji rock solely with tanks that have more than enough biological filtration (myself...

    Tonga versus Fiji rock

Thanks for the comments. As much as I see nice live rock online, I would rather go to a store and pick out the shapes. I keep gooing back and forth as I see so much nice stuff from Marco, Aquarium Arts, Premium Aquatics to name a few. Which rock then is considered porous, and how important is...

    Tonga versus Fiji rock

Is Tonga generally regarded as "better" rock than Fiji? Also is Fiji basically branches? I was wondering if you could aquascape nicely with just Tonga? Ken

Help with clown and nem setup

Sam, I spoke to then this morning. They said they don't advertise live rock on the web, but they do have in the store. If the tank stand comes in on Friday, I will drive there on Saturday. Ken

Help with clown and nem setup

Sam, I went to Hidden reef's website and did not see Live Rock. It had ornamental rock. I will give them a call tomorrow. Ken

Help with clown and nem setup

I bought a 26 gallon bow front and a Sunlight Supply Tek T5 (4x24 watts). I am still debating which hang on back skimmer. I was debating the Deltec MCE 300 or 600, but I have heard conflicting things about micro bubbles in the tank. has anyone heard of this? Ken

Help with clown and nem setup

Yes, I want to keep it simple. Those Nano tanks look cool but there is way to much going on with those setups for me, and think it is unnecessary (for me). I also do not like the dimensions. I figure if a skimmer and rock work in a SPS tank, then it should work with a pair of clowns and a nem...

Help with clown and nem setup

I have had a beautiful pair of Clarkii’s in my sump for the last 8 months or so. I was hoping to get a maroon clown out of my 90 gallon reef tank and put them in but to no avail. I will say that Jazzsam is persistent though. I was going to give the Clarki’s away, but I don’t want to part with...

    coraline algae

He did not mention aragonite sand, I did. My small issue is what was stated for sure. I also think that cyno might be his issue. Reeferwannabe, can you blow off the substance that is on top of the sand? If it is coraline algae, I believe the sand would be calcifying together. You should be...

    coraline algae

I have it as well, but it is due to having aragonite sand and the alkalinity levels in my tank from the calcium reactor. It is in only a few small places where the sand calcified together and then coralline algae formed on it. Ken

    Green bubble algae

I had heard that too. I bought 8 emerald crabs last week. I haven't see any change though. I was more curious on how/why this algae grows so I know how to prevent it. Ken

    Green bubble algae

Does anyone know the cause and how to eliminate this? I am not sure which species it is. My tank is setup a little over a year and I have no other algae in the tank now, as well as any other time since the tank has been setup. This includes even the first few months. I have no measurable...
