Is this excellence too far gone?

Is CoralRx an adequate medicinal dip? I have it for new stuff to help with pests but I didn't know what others applications it has...

    Hair algae outbreak.

Retested the same new water twice with 1 vial and it was zero. Yippie. Now I have to retest the big bucket to see if it was the method and not the water. Drum's duue for a cleaning either way this weekend.

Is this excellence too far gone?

Thought that was a few years back and really the coral from Indonesia. The stuff from australia was supposed to be better and I didn't think the small ones came from Indonesia. I guess if it's that disease it's done. I was just thinking it was from the angel nipping at it and if so could it recover.

Is this excellence too far gone?

I got this last week. It came from a 50g nano under a single 250 MH Its in a 90 w/ a coralife twin 150 HQI fixture. I've had it for 10 days. After about 5-6 it looked like this I believe the culprit is/was my Singapore Angel. She'd always left LPS alone -just zoas and palys. Well I guess...

wait, stop the presses Did my effort to use the Hanna checker in a practical way screw up my results? before I jump to any conclusions (not to be mixed up with the Office Space: Jump to Conclusions Mat) I just read on the Sponsor's page on "that other site" that some people don't recommend...

    Hair algae outbreak.

I have a large ball of chaeto -I also have a pending reef cleaners order with a few other varieties. Before the outbreak I was thinking the addition of bio pellets would hurt the chaeto so I help off on adding others until I fully observed. Well the HA is all the observation I need I suppose.

    Hair algae outbreak.

well, the small batch was an epic fail - it read 0.07 on the trusty Hanna Phosphate meter. Any thoughts? I used a new/clean bucket and fresh RO/Di to make it. The salt is Aquavitro Salinity. It is litterally a brand new bucket (so the other tests of my drum and all the problems were with an...

    Is my skimmer sufficient?

I'm battling some HA too and I noticed doing my testing that my dkh jumped in the last week or two from the 7s up to 9.6. Now that might not be as high as was contemplated when you read that but I'll say that my increase was unintentional and it's had no impact on the HA. Maybe a dkh of 11-12...

    Hair algae outbreak.

yep - saw your suggestion I guess I forgot to add that but it's a big part of the plan I'm going to do a a 5g container tonight and let it sit until tomorrow. but like I said, I have been in denial of how dirty the inside wall of that container is, not to mention the heater, pumps, etc. Event...

    Dave’s 90g learning-curve glass room experiment

In addition to the HA outbreak (which at least I now have a "next step" to follow) I've noticed a couple weird things. I have one really nice sized scarlet hermit - it's molted at least 2 times since I've had it. It is now sort of hibernating. I see no evidence that it's molted again. No...

    Hair algae outbreak.

any thoughts why the dkh might have jumped? last week I tested (see post above) and it was 7.17 dkh. NSW was 6.5 so it seems all over the place. I'm dosing vinegar - it's a carbon source - you mentioned eliminating DOCs - could I be adding too many DOCs by dosing the carbon/vinegar? No...

    Hair algae outbreak.

well, it sort pains me to trash 25g of new salt water but i guess I knew and was in denial. there's a fair amount of precipitate in the new water drum and when I get down to the bottom it's pretty dirty looking. I guess this weekend I'll be starting that over and on Jim's advice I'll be adding...

    Singapore Angel

As much as it pains me I think I have to offer up a 2.5" Singapore Angel. A really pretty fish but it is not behaved around zoas and palys. Never bothers hammer or leathers. Never goes near SPS. Zoas are a different story and now it seems to be harassing a nano elegance I picked up. So there's...

    Hair algae outbreak.

THR took care the bad Red Sea nitrate test kit (and for anyone who read my TOTT thread, they credited me back for $8x3 for the 3 turbo snails they charged 9.99 for. Check your receipts boys and girls... I digress. So now I'm kind of confused. I tested the tank and as was suggested, nitrates and...

    Dave’s 90g learning-curve glass room experiment

I've been running the pellets for a while. Hopefully it's colonized. I did add some pellets. Unlike Jim, I left my fuge/chaeto to provide a breeding ground for pods to keep the madarin happy and plump. Hopefully that didn't impact the pellet's development. Here's hoping the GFO starves the HA -...

    Dave’s 90g learning-curve glass room experiment

Thanks Paul - hopefully someone will weigh in - what I had read when I was looking into running biopellets was that running the GFO was redundant and thus unnecessary. My HA is starting to get out of hand so I'm trying everything (that won't cause damage) so if someone knows of something I...
