I have never intentionally killed mushrooms, but I do think Vinegar alone should work. I have de-zoaed a rock before, and de-star polyped, and vinegar worked for both of those.

Used equipment for large tanks isn't easy to find, but it isn't impossible either. Check out the NJRC selling forum on Reef Central, the Manhattan Reefs selling forum on Reef Central, and maybe DVRC. Take your time and go slow. We bought our tank in May, but it didn't get fully set up...

IMHO, the sponge is more good than bad. It is going to trap some detritus, which means some matter that would produce Ammonia which is broken down to nitrites and then to nitrates, but it is also providing space for the denitrifying bacteria to reside. That is one of the reason people who are...

You may want to put it back in. The sponge was acting as a host for de-nitrifying bacteria. If you put it back in, it will act as a trap for detritus, but it will also continue to host the good denitrifying bacteria. Just my two cents from having done this before.

We have our nano's light cycle programed the same way :) Similar style of tank 12g JBJ with LPS and NPS and a few small fish. We have a tiger pistol, a magnificent goby, a green banded goby, a pompom crab, and a candy basslet in our 12g and I love it.

Loving what you have done with it. Gorgeous. You should be able to do 3-4 snails and 3-4 hermits. I would go for a small group of sexy shrimp (3-5) if I were you. You should also be OK with a cleaner shrimp in that space, a pair of peppermints, or some of the smaller dwarf shrimp like...
