    Calcium reactor?

what are you dosing? 2 part? Kalkwasser? 20 is a little small for a Calcium reactor in my opinion, but if you're planning on getting a bigger tank in the future, it would be something I would contemplate on

Clarkii Clown jumped out, and into filter! #$%^@&

he'll be fine. I had a six line survive in a fluval for almost 2 weeks eating whatever in there, skinny as heck and scuffed up from barnacles inside the canister, but he survived.

    What's your current ride?

In a closed event, yes. Racing on the street is foolish and reckless. 11.8/quarter with almost 28psi and track gas; blew differential. All wheel drives do not like being launched. Stuck with road courses after that. Real slow, just for show; but it looks fast, does that count? Here's...

    Tang stocking suggestion.

I have a Blue Hippo and a Yellow tang, and even though they get along 98% of the time (they are about the same size), sometimes I notice that the yellow gets his fin nipped off every now and then. I've never really had any of the other ones, but the two latter mentioned definitely provide a...

Pet plus is a plus in my book!

so, ALL you guys have gone to Pets Plus as well eh? LOL. I stopped by the Boater's world last month to get some tackle, and saw the sign. I walked in there, played with the puppies and saw the flash of aquarium lights from the back. Eventually, I ended up picking John's brains (I think he's...

36" tank stand do i need a center vertical brace

You can certainly get away with using 3/4 inch ply all around as long as you brace up the inside corners/joints with 2X2's (or 1X2's at the very least). Use a generous amount of Liquid nails and sheetrock screws. It's only a 36 inch span, so no center brace will be needed. I have a 60 inch...

    Texas holey rock

If I'm not mistaken, Texas Holey Rock is comprised of a limestone structure. I don't know of anyone who has used this rock for a reef tank application, but i would personally be concerned if anything else may leach out of the rock since limestone is very porous and it may hold a myriad of other...

    Tabling Acro Question

They are relatively easy to keep, but stability and water flow is Key. I was able to revive one from a pet store which was 95% dead and has now rebounded back completely. They like very high and turbulent water movement, and excessive light doesn't seem to bother them much, given they are...

    Lens Help

Hey Paul, I've owned the 105VR and as Phyllis mentioned, it's a little slow to the shutter coz of the adjustments the VR is trying to make. I prefer the 60mm macro myself, but it's a different ballgame altogether. The 105 is great for the extended depth shots, and the 60mm macro is great for the...

    Tabling Acro Question

I think you're OK with 15" deep, but keep in mind that tabling acros like the efflos are sometimes just under inches of water in the wild. I used to have mine placed about midway too, but ever since I moved it about 6 inches from the waters' surface, total of 14 inches away from my 250 watt...

    Live rock advice needed

yes it will. you want to have some kind of water movement and some kind of filtration if possible. live rock contains both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, and lack of circulation may lead to anoxia.

55g softie to SPS switch over questions.

easy beginner sps's include montipora species (digis and capricornis), and some have good luck with green slimers (albrohensis) Kalkwasser drips will help your calcium demanding corals in the meantime, so no need to invest in a calcium reactor. Not only will your corals benefit from the...

55g softie to SPS switch over questions.

I'll need to add that although flow is important in a reef tank, random flow is what is needed to be replicated. When I had a 55 gallon tank, I only had 3 maxijets on the tank, and the sps loved it. They were connected to a Tsunami wavemaker. This was back when I was getting started with SPS...

    Reef Pics... Grand Cayman Islands!

it was under 5500K, UVA/UVB rating of 9. Duration of lighting is 13 hours with a gradual ramp of 5-35% intensity between 7am and 10am, 35%-90% by noon, 100% between noon and 2pm, and then recessing to 0% by 8pm. No actinic supplementation :) I hope that helps :)
