Dave I just replace the old mini bio balls instead if cleaning them. They cost about $10 for 1/2 gal bag. For me it was just easier.

I owned one of these for yrs. I ran it externally with a iwaki 20rlt. This thing kicked a$$. I ordered replacement mini bio balls instead cleaning the one in the chamber. I believe I was running 9 mini bio balls. Definitely a great skimmer but not cost effective to run.

Wow. It's been a while since I updated. Well a little up dated. I just started 2part dosing to keep my alk / cal from swinging so much. I also had to vent my skimmers air line outside. I run a fireplace in my house so it's dropping my PH in the tank. I've been having issues with my corals...

Keep a eye on your levels. He might raise your levels by mixing your sand around.

That's the reason I bought a Sleeper Gold Head Goby. I also had some dead spots. And he took care of those areas for me by sifting thru it.

I saw a video with Mike Paletta doing just that. He was slowly acclimating some fresh water Mollies to saltwater cause said they eat the algae off the corals and not harming the corals.
