Last Sunday my Reefkeeper gave up. Slew of errors, reset all, troubleshooted, etc. No dice. So been doing things manually. Coupon came from BRS, figured I'd buy a new one. Expensive but needed. Brought Jeep to my mechanic Wednesday. Cylinder head is cracked. At least $1200 repair if I don't...

    DIY Nano-skimmer

Well, Trio inspired me to get off my arse and get moving on a skimmer build. I found a few items around the hose in the aquarium junk box. Skimmer being built for a IM Nuvo 10 with approximately 3" diameter clearance in the back chamber (though 2.5" is more realistic for fit). I found a two...

    Odd. Scam?

So, I found a craigslist post for some Innovative Marine stuff - skimmer, reactor, fuge light, etc. The pics all look legit, showing shipping boxes and all equipment. It seems the story of a tank purchase which was never set up. The original ad reads: Interested, I send a mail: And I get...

    Anyone have a sea hare?

Got one about the size of a baseball, it eats algae like a vacuum, and is by far the coolest animal in my tank. It's a fuzzy/spiky variety (Aplysia sp). I'm supplementing with seaweed. Just curious if anyone has kept one successfully long term and has any advice to offer.

    Algae and Death, a mystery

I've got a few small, but thickening areas of green hair algae over the past month. Its growing slowly, densely, and surely. I had bryopsis in the past and took an aggressive stance against it (see below) so I'm surprised to see the GHA outbreak. I've also had the loss of a very well...

    Prepping dry rock

Decided to do some new, semi-complex aquascaping in the new pico tank. Have a few pieces of rock that are too small to acid bath but have old/dead organics on them (algae and such). I've never used used dry rock and I'm unsure if any type of algae 'spores' and could survive. Is it worth running...

    Vortech customer service

Picked up a couple of MP40s, both generation 1. Neither in great condition. I called Vortech today and explained the situation. One unit was unsalvageable, but they were more than helpful in helping me rebuild the other to full current spec, including QD wet-side and controller, RF module, and...

    Mark's Pico reef (6g)

Sale of the species specific didn't work out, and as I was looking at the tank (which was going to be seahorse specific) I thought, its Saturday, off work as wife is sick and watching kids, I don't want to work on the floors, I'm a bit bored, and surely I don't have enough stress. I should make...

    Bowie. Sad.

BAH! Everyone in the world has some sort of Eulogy. How can you not if someone has helped define you in some way. I’m a punk - from Clash to Rancid to Dead Kennedys, to Descendents to Greenday. But I love classical, Mozart rocks, to the point where Wolfgang is my son’s middle name. I’m a big...
