If you don't have a big enough refugium with full Triton you might run into problems with algae cuz they put extra chemicals in it to grow your refugium faster and if it isn't big enough to take up the extra nutrients you might get nuisance algae other places Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk

No you don't have to do them but even with the full triton they recommend water changes every time that I get a Triton test they always recommend some percentage of Water change. Like my last test they recommend water changes because of high tin levels

Triton other method you can run your system with filter socks and you don't need such a big refugium. You can run it like a normal setup.

I would put the refugium in the biggest compartment of the sump. You probably have at least 50 total water volume so your refugium needs to be a minimum of 5 gallons to run full triton you might want to look at Triton other method you don't need a special sump
