Are there any divers on these boards??

There is a whole ocean off our coast that is a great place to dive. Where are you located? I am hoping to do a dive at Shark River in Belmar in a couple weeks. Last check the water there was 42F so just need it to come up a few more degrees. May 1 I'll be heading out to Bainbridge, PA for the...

You need to find a local dive shop in your area to take lessons.

Best times to add Zooplankton & phytoplanktons?

I personally prefer using Phycopure but that's just me. http://www.seahorsesource.com/cgi-bin/shop/detail.cgi?id=201120 It is also a blend of different microalgaes but has a few different species and nutritional profile. All 3 products, Phycopure, DT's and the one from Reed mariculture, are good...

Best times to add Zooplankton & phytoplanktons?

Sid, in my opinion you don't want to add those things at all. They really don't do anything beneficial for your tank. They are nothing but dead organisms in a bottle, adding dead stuff to your tank isn't really a good idea. About the only thing those types of products are good for is feeding an...

    Battery backup

I'd go more of 15-20 minute cycles. 5 minutes may be too much for the pump to handle.

    Battery backup

Most gas hot water heaters have an electronic ignition system so they won't work during a power outage. If you have a gas stove you can manually light those burners and heat water or cook that way. As for the battery, I'd opt for a deep cycle marine style battery. They are more expensive but...

    Boil your water Middlesex county

I would boil it just to be safe. Some bacterias may be small enough to get paste the filters. Also may not be a bad idea to have a replacement set of filters on hand to change them out once they "all clear" is given by the water company again.

    12 gallon JBJ

Gorgeous fish. They can be very cryptic so don't get overly concerned if you don't see him much. I had one for about a year and loved him. They do stay really small so feeding can be a challenge, mine got a mix of frozen cyclopeze and 2-3 day olde enriched brine shrimp.

APTASIA, MOJAMO, PEST killer....Eric Borneman's recipe

Try checking Lowes for Roebic Crystal Drain Opener. It's 100% lye. You can also try looking for places that sell soap making supplies as lye is a main ingredient in soaps.

    March meeting thanks!!!!!!

Thanks Rod for having us in your house. I really like the simplicity of your tank and it looked great. It was great to see some of the gang again and to finally be able to put faces to some other names. Nikki, let me know when you're ready to do that other tank. They are a lot easier than...

    making saltwater

All I run is carbon filtration for my make-up water, I don't even use RO. You only need it if your water supply is treated with chloramine. You would need to contact your water company and see if they use chlorine or chloramine.

    making saltwater

Yes they do but it is usually after the RO membrane. Running carbon prior to the membrane will remove the chloramines before they damage it. Thus increasing the effectiveness and life of the membrane.

    making saltwater

Actually RO will not remove chloramines, just chlorine. Chloramines can be removed through carbon filtering the water before it goes into your RO unit. Chlormaines will severely shorten the life of your RO membrane.
