    UG Filters

The LFS isn't responsible for the Tubifex confusion, that was the first site I googled. I should know better than to believe everything I read on the Internet! ;D I thouhgt they were different. The LFS did mention the parasites though and I'm not really worried about that. As you mentioned they...

I checked the profile, you've got me by 4 years. ;D Back in the TFH days folks would argue about Innes vs. Axelrod; much like the legendary DSB wars over on RC. :o I like your thoughts on proper nutrition. I asked my LFS if he carries them and he said he doesn't like to bring them in because...

Ah the memories! My first book on saltwater was Straughn's. I was thinking about digging it out and giving it a read, now I'll have to make that a priority. (I might even find my Exotic Aquarium Fishes by William T. Innes, not the reprint!) All my my original bleached coral heads are somewhere...

    DSB/RDSB? Think Again People

Well, I'm a lot older than my oldest sandbed! The oldest I had was 4 years; the 55 softie tank that I just move to the 75. In the 75 I have a shallow sandbed. When I tore the 55 down it looked like it could have kept on a lot longer without any problems. My tanks before the 55 were all...

You won't get any arguments from me! I've used them reverse flow, standard flow and have pulled the pumps and called it a plenum. Every tank worked!

"Japanese style" aquascaped and/or 'minimalist' reef tanks

See, what I do like about this approach is the large open area with a black background really shows off large colorful fish like those tangs! ;)

    Scolymia not doing well

A picture would be helpful. If you have the room I would move it down onto the sandbed in an area of low to moderate flow. Don't try to feed everyday, but do try to give it something meatier like small whole krill of a chunk of silverside.

    blange3's 180 upgrade

Hey Paul, I got the PM on RC. Thanks for the advice. I've been wanting to boost the diversity in my system so I'm going to try some NSW and mud/sand from the scenic Jersey shore. I like your emphasis on feeding as well and have been planning on culturing phyto/rotifers/brine shrimp to...

Well Mark, Trying something new, while your calcium is way out of wack, and two major parameters are unknown and un-testable at the moment, really justifies your new screen name IMHO! ;D

"Japanese style" aquascaped and/or 'minimalist' reef tanks

Hey I'm starting to really like this guy. ;D I use to say the same thing about the ocean, until one of the preasenters at our first frag swap stated that most of the ocean is hard bottom. Boy were there reefers all over my case that day! :o But the corals I like come from the sandy side of the...

If you don't have a clue - at least have a plan!

So you have decided to take up reefkeeping.........Good for you! So what's the plan?? ??? You do have a plan. right!? ;) Reefkeeping is a fascinating, challenging and very rewarding hobby. But it can be costly both in terms of money and the lives of the organisms you plan to keep. Not to...
